The second edition of the ‘Cricket for Care’ Inter-Academy Under-15 Tournament was announced at a Press conference by Shyam Bhatia who has been supporting and sponsoring cricket activities in this country for many years in the presence of Mohamed Lokhandwala, Honorary Secretary of Dubai Cricket Council and DCC members Farrukh Siddiqui and Gopal Jasapara.
Shyam Bhatia said, ‘It gives me a lot of satisfaction to see the young kids playing the game of cricket and I am trying my best to support cricket in whatever way I can. Last year we had the finals of this tournament at the ICC GCA cricket ground and this year too we will have the finals on grass ground. I propose that the semi-finals should be of 30 overs and the finals of 35 overs if it is acceptable to the DCC and to all the academies’ a proposal which was accepted by all present to give the kids a taste of longer matches.
Honorary Secretary of DCC, Mohamed Lokhandwala said, ‘Ten Academy teams from all over the U.A.E. will be participating in this event and 25 over matches will be played in the league stage on Saturdays and holidays at the DIP ground which Freddy Sidhwa has been kind enough to allocate for the use of this tournament. Children born after 1-7-1996 and training with any academy are eligible to play in this tournament. Last year’s champions G - Force Academy and runners-up Desert Cubs have been given the pride of place in two different groups. Each team will play four league matches and the top two teams will play the 30 over semi-finals followed by a 35 over final on grass.’
